Freelance Writing / Editing

My career in educational publishing began in 1980 when I landed a job as an editorial assistant in a New York development house. I quickly moved through the ranks to editor and then project editor. As project editor, I shepherded several large projects from the writing stage through camera-ready mechanicals. In 1984, I left my in-house job to work as a freelance writer and editor.

Projects run the range from teenage romances to personal resource management to a book on the historic township of Cranbury, NJ. Most editorial projects, however, have been school textbooks and workbooks, primarily in the subjects of history, geography, political science, economics, language arts, science, and health. A representative sampling of projects follows:

Grammar and Composition for Today (Globe Book Company)
Strange But True (Silver Burdett)
Silver Burdett English (Silver Burdett)
The Basics of Writing (Globe Book Company)
Our Nation, Our World (McGraw-Hill)
Understanding American History (Random House)
Building Better Health (McDougal, Littell)
Personal Resource Management (Brooklyn Board of Education)
Electronic Office Procedures (McGraw-Hill)
Scope English (Scholastic Book Company)
GED Study Guides (various companies, including Scott-Foresman, Cambridge, Glencoe, and South-Western)

Much of my writing has been for GED study guides. I'm a sole or contributing author of many GED books for several publishers. I'm also a contributing author to many textbooks and workbooks. A representative sampling of writing projects follows:
